When I first started writing and publishing back in 2015, hearing that your story was full of tropes was almost a bad thing. Having a review that called out a trope even hurt a little. Thank goodness the book world has since embraced tropes and now celebrates them! I think readers like knowing a book contains certain tropes, which can help them decide what to read. I turned to those tropes when writing The Bourbon Bride since I realized that I also liked them and wanted to have a story that included some of my favorites.
